Reliant Scimitar GTE SE5A, année 1973. Ce magnifique exemplaire arbore une robe rouge foncé, rehaussée d'un intérieur en similicuir marron cognac. Importée du Royaume-Uni par un passionné, elle a fait l'objet d'une restauration complète entre 2022 et 2024, minutieusement documentée. La carrosserie en PRV (plastique renforcé de fibres de verre) fut repeinte et une grande partie de l'intérieur fut refaite, notamment le toit ouvrant panoramique. Le puissant moteur Ford Essex V6 3 litres, déjà en bon état, fut équipé d'un nouveau carburateur et d'un allumage électronique. La boîte de vitesses à quatre rapports est dotée de l'option overdrive. Lors de la restauration, la voiture fut équipée de nouveaux pare-chocs en acier inoxydable, d'un système d'échappement en acier inoxydable, de jantes en alliage poli Wolfrace de 14 pouces chaussés de pneus Continental 185/70 R14 H et d'une radio rétro Caliber. La Reliant Scimitar GTE, lancée en 1968, était une voiture révolutionnaire. Ce break sportif deux portes a véritablement créé le segment des « shooting brakes ». Le modèle a été salué pour son élégance, son caractère, sa praticité et sa construction innovante, combinant un châssis en acier à section caissonnée et une carrosserie en fibre de verre boulonnée. Les composants mécaniques (moteur, boîte de vitesses, pont arrière, etc.) provenaient des gammes Ford Zephyr/Zodiac et Capri. The Reliant Scimitar emerged in the early 1960s as Reliant’s move into the sporting GT market, beginning with the Ogle‑designed Scimitar GT SE4. It combined a fibreglass body with Ford mechanicals, giving it strong performance and relatively low weight. In 1968 Reliant introduced the Scimitar GTE, a groundbreaking sporting estate that effectively created the “shooting brake” segment for modern buyers. The GTE’s blend of practicality, speed and style made it an immediate success and earned praise from the motoring press. Princess Anne famously adopted the Scimitar as her personal car, owning several examples and giving the model a lasting association with British royalty. Throughout the 1970s the Scimitar evolved through SE5 and SE6 versions, gaining more refinement, improved suspension and a roomier interior. Reliant also produced the Scimitar GTC, a rare convertible variant that broadened the range. The cars were known for their durability, distinctive styling and strong Ford V6 engines, which made them popular with enthusiasts. Production continued into the mid‑1980s, after which small specialist firms carried on building and supporting the model. Today the Scimitar is regarded as one of Britain’s most characterful classic GT cars, admired for its innovative design and everyday usability. Many examples survive thanks to their rust‑free composite bodies and loyal following.
