Lex Classics 1014
The Rover 14 was introduced in the year 1936. The 14 became available as a six cylinder model next to the Rover Twelve. At the same time the bigger motorized Rover 16 was presented. These Rover models were technically very much ahead of the competition in their time. It was so modern that the car was built until 1948. The cars featured a low chassis, engine with overhead valves and built-in jacks.
In the pre-war years Rover was known for the conservative styling of the cars and the superior quality they offered. The cars were always just a little better than the competitors in the middle-class car market. The Rover 14 and 16 were no exception, the cars were well constructed and were very reliable. The interior was rich, lots of wood, leather and quality carpet were used to please the rather wealthy middle-class customer.
The Rover 14 sported a 1577 cc or 1901 cc (58 bhp) six cylinder engine, the Rover 16 featured a cylinder-capacity of 2147cc. giving a power output of 72 bhp. The cars could be ordered in two versions; the Saloon and the Sports Saloon. Both versions were basically the same but the "Sports" was fitted with some extra accessories like a twin-tone air-horn.
